Swim California

Media Kit

A once in a lifetime journey of a woman battling the elements from the Oregon to Mexico border. Through sport, she tells a powerful story of the people, places, and problems that shape the California Coast—a love letter to the ocean.

I'm Catherine Breed and I'm swimming 900 miles down the California coastline from Oregon to Mexico through some of the most dangerous waters in the world. This never-before-done stage swim raises funds for Sea Dreamers, empowering women and girls to get into the ocean and protect our coastline — because when you fall in love with something, you fight to protect it.

Asked

Questions

  • To raise awareness of the issues along our coastline. To inspire. To show the human potential is unlimited.

  • The ocean is full of wildlife and sharks are not the only concern. White sharks do live along our coastline and feed on pinnipeds. However, shark vs. human interaction are rare and even more rare when there is a floatilla of safety vessels surrounding the swimmer.

  • I aim to cover around 10-12 miles a day swimming about 5-8 hours per day with rest days built into the schedule.

  • I believe so, yes. Check out these swimmers:

Ross Edgley- Around Iceland, around Great Britain

Sean Conway- Length of the UK

    Daragh Morgan- Around Ireland

Jono Ridler- Length of the East coast of North New Zealand

  • Mostly on the boat but we will come to shore and take 1-2 rest days.

  • Realistically, this distance could be covered in 3 months or less. However, because of the winds that plague the CA coast during the summer we have created over a month of buffer time. This time accounts for weather holds, boat issues, and to enjoy our time!!
